VSRU U18 Schoolboys Coach
CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Reporting to the Secretary VSRU, the primary role of the Coach is to produce the best possible performance from the Team and to develop a player and team ethos to satisfy short and long-term performance goals – on and off the field.
2. To ensure that the Under 18 Program is aligned with the VSRU strategy and approach.
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES AND CRITERIA
- RA current Level 1, 2 or 3 Coaching Accreditation. Coaches from any age group at VSRU schools or RV clubs are welcome to apply. Level 2 or higher is preferred. Lengthy experience in touring is necessarily required. Must hold a current successful National Police Record Check (VP Form 820A).
- Proven record of recent coaching success or improvement and desire to improve and be part of the development of rugby in the youth of Victoria
- Proven record of being a role model in all aspects of behaviour, including non- smoking and non-drinking of alcohol while coaching and a discretionary approach in all other hours associated with the Team.
- Capacity to provide a stimulating and enjoyable training environment to develop a genuine sense by each player and the team that they are learning and developing.
- Sound contemporary knowledge of the game, both tactical and technical, and an unquestionable commitment to the modern style of Rugby.
- Demonstrated high level of people management and leadership skills including the abilities to plan, organise and to delegate responsibilities.
- Effective communicator with a proven ability to instruct and to listen.
- Proven analytical skills with an ability to realistically appraise the qualities of the team and the opposition.
- Demonstrated ability to work with executive and support staff for the benefit of the team.
- Understanding of the role of Sports Science in injury avoidance, nutrition, mental preparation, fitness, strength and recovery training.
- Willingness to research new methods and practices for adaptation for the betterment of the team and the Union.
SPECIFIC TASKS
In conjunction with the VSRU: the Head Coach will be required to deliver many criteria:
- Implement appropriate selection trials, training and coaching programs for the Under 18 schools squad which is open to any underage player in the state but is aimed at developing players who normally do not get the chance to tour. As many schools and clubs as reasonable should be included
- Assist with the appointment & then ongoing management of the Schools Under 18 Coaching panel and support team if required to conduct events.
- Develop a Plan for the Season covering a program of training strategies, skill protocols and recovery designed to prepare players and the team for successful outcomes in all match fixtures.
- Maintain a Coaches Record Book/Diary for the Season (as supplied by RV) – if appropriate
- Accept responsibility (working with team management) for team discipline and behaviour at all times. Implement the VSRU Code of Conduct for all Squad members, both on and off the field.
- Advise current players with the earliest possible notice of reasons for any non-selection. Maintain regular communication with players on matters of playing and training performance.
- Maintain a Duty of Care for all players under instruction and adhere to medical advice. Be aware of and responsive to any medical condition of a player.
- Attend relevant coaching seminars, promotional functions and meetings as required.
- Provide an Annual Report on the Season, including match performance, playing standards and recommendations for improvement for the following season.
In 2023 The Championships will be held between theJune/July holidays with a venue TBC. Teams including all management live on site in a boarding school/ tournament environment.
Training: Most Sundays and Wednesdays leading up to the Championships.

VSRU U18 Schoolboys Team Manager
CORE FUNCTIONS
- The role is to provide logistics and administrative management for the Victorian U18’s Schoolboys team program. The purpose of the role is to manage and implement all team logistical and operational programs to ensure the best environment for team performance. Maintaining the high off-field standards will be a key focus.
- Manage the team on its campaign to represent Victoria at the Australian Schools Rugby Championships.

The Team Manager will be required to deliver many criteria:
- Management of all team logistics and operations including team travel, meals and accommodation.
- Management of team welfare and discipline in conjunction with the Head Coach.
- Assist in managing the operational budget with a key focus on all Fund Raising activities.
- Close liaison with the Head Coach regarding daily and longer term team schedules, which includes training, meetings, discipline, team standards and social activities.
- Coordination of Team and Management meetings including arranging time, venue, agenda, recording of minutes and follow up action on decisions
- Liaison with match and event officials as necessary.
- Coordination of hydration and training equipment requirements for all training sessions and matches.
- Management and coordination of team uniforms and equipment including distribution of playing, training, formal and casual apparel.
- Duty Managers Management - co-ordinate Duty Managers’ timetable, responsibilities and duties daily.
- Attend all games, training sessions and assemblies.
