Since 1991, the VSRU competition has been formalised with ladders and competition winners recognised amongst a number of different grades and age groups. The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation’s Love the Game program aims to counter the normalisation of sports betting by raising community awareness about the risks associated with gambling and encouraging kids to love the game, not the odds. More than 700 professional and community clubs across Victoria are Love the Game partners. By refusing gambling sponsorships, they are reducing young people’s exposure to betting promotions. Using Love the Game resources, clubs also talk to kids about how gambling works and help equip them to think critically about the risks.
