The Quilt Program
Rugby VIC and Melbourne Rebels have committed to preventing sexism and gender inequality in the community, and making rugby a game for all.
To further support the Rugby VIC commitment to gender equality, a new education and participation initiative, the Quilt Program, will be introduced to the Victorian rugby community in 2018-2019.
The program will use sport as the vehicle to prevent violence against women and children and aims to ensure that both women and children are not only safe, but respected and treated as equals. Quilt will involve initiatives that address the drivers of gender inequality as outlined in Change the Story, Australia’s national framework for the primary prevention of violence against women and their children.
The Quilt Program will follow a best practice ‘whole of sport’ approach with two streams of participation/ education program, and a club development/education framework. The Quilt Program runs in conjunction with key community cultural leaders. This approach will provide sustainable change to our community.
