Rugby Victoria, in conjunction with the Rebels Super W side, will be hosting two Girls Can Tackle sessions this March.
These sessions are designed to provide girls with confidence in being able to make safe tackles in match situations. The key focus will be on technique and skill acquisition in tackling, with a number of activities in place to introduce girls to the contact side of the sport.

Rugby Victoria CEO Chris Evans explained the growing appetite for the contact form of the game amongst girls.
“In 2022, RV will launch four new girls competitions (U12, U14, U16 and U18) contact. The girls can tackle session will teach the girls the appropriate technique for the contact elements of the game and build confidence as they prepare for round 1.
“These Girls Can Tackle events are open to all girls aged 10 – 19. You don’t need to be registered with a club to attend, so we’d encourage all girls considering rugby to come down and give it a go.
“Scheduling the program before the SuperW games provides a wonderful opportunity for the girls to watch the SuperW fixture and witness these wonderful role models play the game they love.
“As a bonus, the non-playing 23 Super W representatives will be supporting the girls can tackle program.”
A free BBQ will also be supplied for all girls in attendance at the second session.
