Last month at the Rugby Victoria Annual General Meeting (AGM), Mr Alan Latu was elected to the Rugby Victoria Board of Directors, with immediate effect.
Welcoming Mr Latu to the Board, Rugby Victoria President Neil Hay noted the event management, business development and digital expertise that he will bring to the state body.
Alan has 26 years extensive background in security and emergency management working with people to build high performance teams, prioritising the teaching of leadership under adversity. Alan also uses sport as a vehicle to build leadership, confidence and acceptance in young people by facilitating primary school incursions.
Alongside his professional experiences, Alan brings a wealth of rugby experience to the role having played 1st XV from 1994 – 2015, where he won 3 Dewar Shield Premierships with Box Hill Rugby Club and 2 with Power House Rugby Club where he was a playing President. Alan also played for the Victorian Axeman team and he currently holds the role of Director of Rugby at Xavier College. Alan is also the Melbourne Rebels Ground Announcer.
Highly skilled in negotiation, management and empowerment, Alan is a strong communicator with a passion for working with people, with an underlying personal goal to encourage positive outcomes to build positive communities.
On his appointment, Rugby Victoria CEO Chris Evans says “We are delighted to have Alan join our Board. Alan has been involved in Victorian grassroots rugby for a long time and we look forward to working alongside him in a more formal capacity for the next 2 years.”
“He adds unique skills and a depth of knowledge to the Board at a time when we are carving out a strong, sustainable future after an interrupted, unprecedented year of no rugby in 2020,” added Evans.
At the AGM, Duncan Shave, Simone Young and Luke Miller were re-elected to the Rugby Victoria Board for a second, consecutive two-year term. Rugby Victoria congratulate Duncan, Simone, Luke and Alan on their appointments!
