Head Coach – Victorian Schoolboys Program (2026)

Victorian Schools Rugby Union (VSRU) is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Head Coach to lead the Victorian Schoolboys Rugby Program in 2026. This volunteer role provides an opportunity to play a key part in developing Victoria’s leading schoolboy rugby athletes and supporting their progression through the state and national pathway system.

The Victorian Schoolboys Program is designed to identify, develop, and prepare athletes for future representative opportunities. The Head Coach is responsible for the design, delivery, and performance of the program, ensuring strong alignment with Rugby Australia’s national development principles and a high-quality athlete experience.

Reporting to the Rugby Victoria Head of Elite Pathways and working closely with the VSRU Executive, the Head Coach will oversee all aspects of training, trials, squad selection, and competition delivery. This includes implementing best-practice coaching frameworks, managing campaign preparation, and ensuring performance standards, athlete welfare, and pathway integrity are consistently met.

Player development is central to the role. The Head Coach will lead the creation of individual development plans aligned with agreed technical, tactical, physical, and behavioural benchmarks, while providing clear and constructive feedback to support athlete growth, accountability, and leadership.

The role also requires leading a fair, transparent, and well-documented selection process, working collaboratively with schools, academy coaches, and pathway staff to identify and support emerging talent. Strong stakeholder engagement with schools, parents, clubs, and pathway partners is essential, with clear communication around program expectations and outcomes.

Applicants should demonstrate proven coaching leadership experience within school, academy, or representative rugby environments. Mandatory requirements include a World Rugby Level 2 Coaching Qualification, Smart Rugby certification, a current Working with Children Check, and a Police Check.

A World Rugby Level 3 qualification and high-performance experience will be highly regarded.
