Who doesn't love a cliffhanger to finish off the regular season?

There will be heartbreak for plenty of teams this weekend as they take to the field for their final match of the season, whilst those on the bubble of finals footy dither as to whether or not they should be investing in a Mad Monday costume.

Referee milestones

This weekend sees some amazing milestones being achieved by our whistle-blower’s.

Congratulations to Shannon McLachlan on becoming only the 12thref to achieve 50 Dewar Shield games since records were kept when he takes charge of the Harlequins vs Endeavour match.

Marika Vertzonis will ref her 150thmatch when she runs out on Saturday. Marika is tireless in her work for the VRRA and this is a great credit to her years of dedication.

Gary Howell caps off his transition from player to ref with 100 games in the middle. A great contributor to our game in Victoria.

Vosa Jersey Auction

The 2022 Quins 1st Grade away jersey will go on auction after their home match against Endeavour Hills tomorrow with all funds raised go to the Maciu Vosa Trust Fund. For those not able to be at the game, bids can be emailed to president@quins.com.au by 12pm Saturday.

As to which jersey we're tipping to fetch the biggest bid? We hear the Master & Commander himself, Angus Arundel, has deployed a bidding agent to drive up the value of his jersey. Stay Tuned!

DEWAR SHIELD

Congratulations to Harlequins on securing the minor premiership after a close win last week over Moorabbin.

They sit 10 points clear but behind them there are some nervous coaches and teams getting ready for a big last round. Melbourne and Moorabbin are both assured of finals but they sit equal second and are both desperate for a top 2 finish and the double chance. If Melbourne win with a bonus point against seventh placed Box Hill they will get that spot as their percentage is far superior to the Rams.

Moorabbin will be in for a tough fight as they are playing a Power House outfit that need to beat them and then rely on Endeavour losing.

Endeavour won’t want to take the risk of Power House losing but have the toughest task of the round in trying to get points off Quins.

Uni lost all hope of a finals birth last week and will be bitterly disappointed but will be after one last win to finish the season against Footscray. The Dogs won again last week and have had a good second round of the season.

Box Hill will want to finish off well at home and be the giant killers that knock off fierce rivals Unicorns.

Strap yourself in for some awesome action and catch the match of the round on RV Facebook.

Premiership

The ladder is set in the Premiership with results not mattering this week.

Congratulations to Brimbank on the minor premiership and taking pole position for the finals.

Northern, new comers Casey plus Kiwi Hawthorn will join them in the semis next week and it is sure to be a tightly contested series with Brimbank firm favourites to bring home the chocolates.

Premiership Reserves

It’s a different story in the Premiership reserves with 3 teams (Shepparton, Maroondah and Cerberus) still in the hunt for the minor premiership so it all comes down to the matches this weekend.

Brimbank and Ballarat are in a dogfight for the 4thand remaining spot as well so there will be a lot of clubs keeping close eyes on the results on Saturday.

This is the closest comp seen in many years and congratulations to all clubs on the standard and competitiveness of this grade.

Dewar Shield seconds

Another really tight finish in Dewar 2s with Harlequins in the box seat for the minor premiership but they are only four points ahead of Melbourne in second spot.

Those two are assured of their finish but it’s a log jam for 3rdand 4thwith Endeavour, Box Hill, Moorabbin and Power House all in the mix for a finals birth.

4 into 2 just doesn’t go. Some tense games coming up...

Dewar Shield thirds

Congratulations to Power House, who win the minor premiership in the Dewar 3s. Even if they lose this Saturday, they are still 5 points clear with a massive percentage ahead of second placed Harlequins.

Those two plus Endeavour are assured of their spots, but perennial top dogs Melbourne will be slightly nervous because if they lose and Uni wins they could be out of the finals for the first time in many many years.

Lindroth Cup

This comp still has two rounds to go but Northern, Endeavour, Western Districts and Melbourne Uni are assured of top 4 spots. The positions shouldn’t change much and Northern only need one win of the 2 remaining games to lock up the Minor premiership.
