Rugby Victoria has announced the appointment of Aaron Bailey as its new Chief Executive Officer, following an extensive recruitment process. Bailey will take over from outgoing CEO Marcus Reynolds and officially commence his role on Monday, 24 March.
Bailey brings a wealth of leadership and commercial experience, having previously held CEO positions at Outer East Football Netball Victoria and the Yarra Junior Football League. His expertise is expected to be instrumental in strengthening Rugby Victoria as it navigates major upcoming events, including the 2025 British & Irish Lions Tour, the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup, and the 2029 Women's Rugby World Cup.
Rugby Victoria President Liz Radcliffe expressed enthusiasm about Bailey’s appointment.
"We are excited to welcome Aaron Bailey to the Rugby Victoria team as our new CEO," Radcliffe said. "Aaron brings a wealth of experience in grassroots sports administration within Victoria as well as strong commercial credentials."
She also extended gratitude to outgoing CEO Marcus Reynolds for his leadership during a challenging period for the sport in Victoria.
"The Board and I would like to thank Marcus for his contribution to Rugby Victoria as our CEO during a particularly challenging time for our code in Victoria. Marcus has provided a steadying hand, leaving the organisation with a clear plan for Aaron to drive forward with the team."
Bailey expressed his excitement about the new role and his commitment to the Victorian Rugby community.
"I am grateful to Liz Radcliffe and the Board of Rugby Victoria for the opportunity to lead one of the premier sports in the country, here in Victoria. I am looking forward to working with the Rugby community, in particular our clubs, participants, and volunteers, to continue to grow the game in Victoria," Bailey said.
He outlined his key priorities, focusing on engagement and sustainability within the sport.
"A priority will be to engage and connect our passionate Rugby community and ensure our clubs and the game are vibrant, thriving, and sustainable in Victoria. Essential to this will be the delivery of Rugby Victoria’s new strategic plan and creating a clear, viable pathway for talented players."
Bailey’s leadership is expected to usher in a new era for Rugby Victoria, reinforcing the sport’s growth and long-term success across the state.
