Following the Premier’s announcement on 7 July, Rugby Victoria acknowledges that metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will return to Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions, effective from Wednesday 8 July at 11:59pm.

We understand the implications this will have on our Rugby community.

Effective immediately Rugby Victoria will suspend all RV Rugby activities in affected areas.

Further, we understand that outside of these areas, Rugby activity can continue. Clubs in those regional areas will be contacted in the coming days to work through the available options.

We have a Club President’s Meeting scheduled for Thursday evening where we will work through the issues presented and listen to our affiliates. This is going to be a tough period for many families and livelihoods but as a Rugby community, we will pull through.

A special thanks goes out to the tireless work of our community volunteers and we thank all the players who have been training hard to get the season going again. Unfortunately, this isn’t the news any of us wanted to hear but it’s a reality.

Neil Hay, President Rugby Victoria urged all stakeholders and our community to continue their remarkable display of unity.

“This is an incredibly disappointing moment. Just as Rugby was about to commence, we are again faced with stage 3 Restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire. However we need to prioritise the health and safety of our community, family and loved ones. Please stay positive, stay connected and stay healthy as we navigate our way through this together”.

Further updates including information for players will be provided in the coming days and weeks.
