6 Melbourne Rebels Junior Academy players have been selected to attend the 2019 Rugby Australia National Gold Camp.

The following players have been selected:

U16’s

  • Leafi Talataina (Endeavour Hills)
  • Sebastion Sialau (Harlequins)
  • Joeli Niubalavu (Harlequins)

U17’s

  • Myles Rennie van Rensburg (Harlequins)
  • Taliu Tuia (Brimbank)
  • Ngalu Kavapalu (Endeavour Hills)

The four day camp, which will be held at The Southport School, Gold Coast in the first week of December, will bring together the best 16 and 17 year old Rugby talent from around Australia to further their development in different aspects of the game.

The camp will be led by Peter Hewat (Australian Schools/U18 Head Coach) and Jason Gilmore (Junior Wallaby Head Coach).

Nic Henderson, Head of Academy for the Melbourne Rebels, believes it is a huge opportunity for this talented group of up-and-coming players.

"It is a great reward for these young rugby players to be selected to attend the National Gold Camp," Henderson said.

"Only the best players in the country are invited across the U16 and U17 age groups, and it shows that the all the hard work they are putting in is starting to pay off."

U17 Rebels Academy member Ngalu Kavapalu views the selection as a massive privilege that has been made possible in part through the Rebels Junior Academy.

"The selection to the National Gold Camp is a huge opportunity that I am ready to take on board," Kavapalu said.

"The Junior Academy has helped me fine tune different aspects within my game such as scrummaging, footwork before contact and catch pass. The Academy has also taught me a lot about looking after my body, especially recovery.

"I'm hoping to build on this knowledge at the National Gold Camp and use it as a platform to achieve my goal of one day representing Australia at the highest level."
