The U14/U16 West Girls School 7s Gala Day was held at Melton Rugby Club last week with 8 teams from 6 schools participating throughout the day.

We would like to congratulate all participating schools in what was an exciting day of rugby 7s. It was great to see the amount of talent coming through, especially from girls who had never previously played rugby 7s. We’re looking forward to seeing the growth within the female junior space over the next few years.

The U14 Girls Grand Final saw Melton SC and Hume Central College contesting a tightly fought game, in which Melton just came out on top 12-10. Both teams were strong throughout the day, and it was always going to be a close one.

In another nail-biting game we saw The Grange take on St Albans SC for the U16 Girls Grand Final, with scores even at full time (17-17) the result went to the first try scorer of the game – The Grange.

The teams that finished the day in the top half of the pool deservedly progressed through to the State Championships and will provide strong representation for the western region.

On behalf of the Development Team we would like to thank all staff, referees and volunteers who helped with the running of the day and particularly extend our gratitude to the schools, teachers and players for participating in this event. A big thanks must go to Melton Rugby Club for hosting us and running a canteen/BBQ throughout the day.
