Our largest Victorian School Touch 7s Mixed Rugby Gala Day was held at Kiwi Hawthorn Rugby Club this week across three fields, with 16 teams from 7 schools participating across both junior and senior competitions.
The day saw many new and old to the game enjoying the social side of Touch 7s, however of course when it came down to finals time everyone was out to win. We look forward to having more schools involved at our next Touch 7s Gala Day, after the success and talent shown across this day.
The Junior Grand Final saw two teams from Fountain Gate SC, Fountain Gate 1 play Fountain Gate 2, with both teams being quite strong throughout their pool games to finish on top respectively. The game was a win either way, with Fountain Gate 1 defeating Fountain Gate 2 25 – 10 in the end. Contesting the Senior Grand Final, in what is always a tight contest, was Fountain Gate and The Grange. With The Grange proving too strong in the end to win convincingly 30 – 5, after both teams demonstrated a great understanding of the game of Touch 7s throughout the day.
Completing what was a great day of rugby was the presence of Melbourne Rebels players Rob Leota and Trevor Hosea who presented to our winning teams and also awarded the Player of the Finals awards.
