It's top of the ladder clashes across multiple competitions this weekend, so we're casting our net a little wider than normal to see if we can reel in some Big Game!

Lindroth Cup

This week sees a rip snorter of a clash in the Womens Lindroth Cup with Northern hosting Endeavour Hills. Both teams sit on 39 points in equal first at the top of the ladder and this match will go a long way to deciding the minor premiership.

Both teams have had their injury and illness woes and let’s hope they are both close to full strength as this could be the match of the year. Two contrasting styles going at it and who can settle and control the game quickest will seize momentum.

Very close to call but we will go out on a limb and pick the Eagles by 7 points

Premiership

In the Premiership we have Brimbank hosting Northern in a crucial 1 vs 2 battle.

Brimbank have swept all before them this season and are still unbeaten and are 13 points clear on top. The Bucks have been playing a great style of rugby and there is sure to be a big crowd at Bon Thomas Reserve to see the Panthers visit.

Northern have been a bit patchy of late with a couple of close loses so they will be looking to get back into form and keep the chasing Casey and Kiwi Hawthorn teams at bay.

Brimbank to continue their unbeaten run and win by 12 points

Premiership Reserves

Another top of the table clash with Cerberus and Shepparton facing off with both teams equal on 48 points, so a spot alone at the top of the ladder is there for the victor.

Last time around Shepparton got the chocolates 26 – 21 but now it’s their turn to take the longest road trip in Victorian rugby and travel to the Navy base.

Both teams have played some really good footy to put themselves in a position to win the minor premiership.

Cerberus to be too fresh at home and win in a close one by 6

DEWAR SHIELD MATCH OF ROUND – LIVE ON RV FACEBOOK - Box Hill vs Endeavour Hills (Ref: Ollie Kellett)

Box Hill improved their defence last week against Uni but couldn’t quite get over the line after a fast start. They are definitely improving and will be looking to snuff out Endeavours slim chances of making the top 4.

The Eagles had a heart breaker last round. Up 19 – 5 at the break they couldn’t hang on and Moorabbin scored on the last play of the game to crush the Eagles and have them now 6 points out of the top 4 and hoping Power House fall over in the last 3 rounds for them to have any chance.

Box Hills best game is around the corner and they will be primed for a big one. The question is can Endeavour get back up and challenge again or is their season done?

This could go either way but we are backing the Eagles to win to maintain their slim hope of finals footy by 8 points.

Melbourne vs Moorabbin (Ref: Shannon McLachlan)

The Unicorns return home after another crushing defeat at the hands of Harlequins. They have also lost their grip on second place with Moorabbin now joining them on 41 points each. This game is for 2ndand will go a long way to securing the double chance in finals.

Moorabbin rallied in the second half last week for a last grasp victory at the Nest and will arrive at the Unicorns knowing they have what it takes to push deep into finals this year. It was a heavy breakdown battle last week and there will be sore bodies but the Rams know now is there chance to really signal their intentions.

The Unicorns will look to bounce back again but will need their forwards to really step up and give them some ascendancy around  the ground. This will be a fiery one and Ref Shannon McLachlan will have his hands full controlling the breakdown and keeping the game flowing.

We are tipping a rare win at Melbourne for the Rams by 8 points

Melbourne Uni vs Power House (Ref: Darren O’Brien)

Melbourne Uni rallied late last week to beat the Broncos and maintain their slim finals hopes. They need to beat Power House this week to give them any chance of finals action and  even then still rely on results going their way.

House know a win will push them even closer to a finals berth and get rid of one of the chasing pack. A loss is not disastrous but they do have a tough  run home and don’t want to have to go the hard route. Uni will be looking to control tempo when back under the bridge this round and stop Powerhouse getting any rhythm up. A desperate battle with 3 rounds remaining.

House to just get over the line and end the Students hopes by 5 points.

Footscray vs Harlequins  (Ref: David Wall)

Footscray started well last week but couldn’t stop Power House once they got momentum up and they will have worked on that at training this week for the visit by table topping Quins.

Harlequins will be buzzing after getting back in the winner’s circle with a massive win and statement game against Melbourne last round.

The Quins pack were totally dominant in an ominous sign for the rest of the competition but they know that a visit to the Pound is no walk in the park. Footscray need to come out snarling and upset Quins patterns if they are to cause the boilover of the year.

Harlequins to win in a bruising battle and continue their charge for minor premiership

Referee Milestones

A couple of whistle blowers are achieving significant feats this weekend. Well done to Clinton Capell on reaching his 50th match tomorrow and a big round of applause to Shannon McLachlan who brings up his 200th!

Well done gents.
